The Coaching Manual (Editable Word)
The Coaching Manual (Editable Word)
Format: Editable Word document (.docx), 46 pages, prints on standard letter paper.
This is the manual our staff at Southside is working from in 2026. It isn't a template somebody made up for a book. The names are real, the dates are real, and the jobs are the ones our coaches are doing this season.
Every section comes in two pages. The first is our page, how we set up that part of the program with our staff's names and dates. The page right behind it is a blank card for the same section, so you can type your own staff's names and dates right on the lines, change any label that doesn't fit, and print it. When you get to the back, you have your own manual. If you'd rather edit our pages directly, every word of those is editable too.
The 20 sections: schedules, head coach goals and academics, theme of the week and program goals, staff standards, practice expectations, coaching requirements, emergency action plan, summer program, the off-season year from December to August, practice duties, game day duties, halftime organization, staff roles, coaching responsibilities coach by coach, the typical in-season week, film breakdown, the game day timeline and pre-game waves, JV, JH and 7th grade, rules and punishments, and lock-up and summer duties.
Who it is for: Head coaches building or rebuilding a staff manual, first-year head coaches who want to see how a program is organized on paper, and coordinators who want their side of the program written down.
What to do next: If you want to start with one piece, some of the blank cards are free on their own, like the Game Day Duties Card, the Pre-Game Timeline Card and the Staff Expectations Card. If you want the whole job of running a program written down, grab the Head Coach Workbook.
